# Import from GA4

Leaving Google Analytics 4? Bring its history along, so your charts don't start at zero. Imported numbers sit beside your own, always marked **Imported from GA4**, and never count twice.

Owners import on an environment's **Import** tab. Members see the imported numbers; viewers see them on the dashboard.

## What comes over

Daily totals, not single events:

| From GA4 | Shows as |
|---|---|
| Event count by event name | Added to the **Events** card, the events table (with a **GA4** badge) and a separate "Imported from GA4" series in the chart |
| Views, sessions | The **Imported from GA4** card |
| Top pages, sources / mediums, countries, device categories | Lists on the same card |

GA4 users are not devices, so the **Active devices** card never includes them. Imported numbers show on the All tab of 7-, 30- and 90-day ranges, not on deployment tabs, Logs or device pages.

Imported numbers **don't count toward your plan**.

## The cutoff day

Imported days show only **before** the cutoff day, so they never overlap the events you send us. It starts at the day of your first own event (or the day of your first import, if you have none yet). Change it on the Import tab.

## Upload a CSV

1. In GA4, open **Explore** and start a **Free form** exploration.
2. **Rows:** `Date`, plus at most one of `Event name`, `Page path and screen class`, `Session source / medium`, `Country`, `Device category`.
3. **Values:** any of `Event count`, `Views`, `Sessions`, `Active users`.
4. Set the date range, then **Export data → CSV**.
5. On the Import tab, click **Import CSV** and pick the file. One file per report, up to 20 MB.

The card's page view and session totals come from a report with `Date` alone as its row; the events card uses the `Event name` report when there is one.

We check the file before importing it and say which line is wrong, if one is. GA4's `#` header lines, the totals row and anything after the first table are skipped. A standard report's CSV download works too, as long as its first table has a `Date` column.

Uploading the same report again replaces its numbers; it never adds them twice. Per day, the 500 busiest values of a dimension are kept.

## Connect Google Analytics

Where it's switched on, **Connect** on the Import tab signs you in with Google and asks for read-only access to your Analytics reports (`analytics.readonly`). Pick a property and a start day (two years back by default), then **Import**.

* The import reads six daily reports in 90-day windows and shows its progress on the page. A small property takes a few minutes.
* If GA4's daily quota runs out, it waits an hour and carries on where it stopped.
* If GA4 hid small numbers (thresholding) or folded rare values into `(other)`, the import says so.
* **Disconnect** revokes our access at Google. Imported numbers stay until you remove them.

We never ask to change anything in your Google Analytics.

## Remove imported numbers

**Remove** on the Import tab deletes every imported number of the environment. Your own events are not touched.
